Weekly Classes 〰️
QL2 Dance is a professional contemporary dance company for young people.
Alongside our creative projects and productions, we run weekly classes during school terms at Gorman Arts Centre in Braddon.
For newer dancers, our classes are a good way to get familiar with QL2 and build skills and confidence to audition for our projects. For more experienced dancers, our classes are a good way to deepen your skills and develop your artistry.
All QL2 Dance programs are innovative and creative, designed and delivered based on current, best industry practice, and facilitated by professional dance artists.

New to dance, or new to QL2?
We encourage you to begin with our contemporary dance class, and pair it with the creative lab. This is the core of what we do at QL2, offering you the opportunity to develop your dancing and explore your creativity.
Along the way you might choose to add a weekly ballet class to your schedule, or our new ‘expanded practice’ class. Expanded Practice allows you to experience a new dance style each term – to continue developing your skills and confidence to dance in many different ways.
For those dancers considering professional practice, our extension contemporary class is designed to supplement the weekly Level 3 contemporary class.
For younger movers aged 4-7 we offer Creative Moves, a joyful, curious, non-confronting class to explore dancing.
You can find out more information about each of these styles here.
How to find your level
QL2 Dance offers classes across three levels. Generally, participants in the same level are of a similar age, skill and confidence with dance.
As a general guide:
Level 3 dancers have solid experience in contemporary dance and strong movement skills.
The current age range of Level 3 dancers at QL2 is 14-19 years of age.
Level 2 dancers have good movement skills and some experience with dance.
The current age range of Level 2 dancers at QL2 is 10-16 years of age.
Level 1 dancers have emerging movement skills and a keen interest in dance.
The current age range of Level 1 dancers is 7-11 years of age.
Our class levels are a little bit different. Most significantly, the age range in each level can be broad, because we consider movement skill, confidence, and experience, before age. This also means that dancers can progress at their own rate; there are no expectations, or deadlines. QL2 teaching artists and staff may recommend level changes anytime during the year.
If you’d like to chat about our classes, including finding the right level for you, please contact us at admin@ql2.org.au – we are happy to help!
