School Matinees 2024

Subject to Change is the major production for QL2 Dance in 2024.

Three dynamic new dance works explore our relationship to change.

Subject to Change considers our adaptability and awareness in a rapidly changing world. Is it possible to maintain a sense of agency and accountability as other forces impact our experience? Can we remain open-minded and responsive to the ever-shifting landscapes of life?

With 26 young Canberran dance artists at the forefront, Subject to Change is a triple bill of new dance works created by renowned Australian choreographers Alisdair Macindoe (Naarm/Melbourne), Gabrielle Nankivell (Meanjin/Brisbane) and Artistic Director of QL2 Dance, Ruth Osborne OAM (Kamberri/Canberra).

Subject to Change represents Australian youth dance at its best; innovative choreography, sound and production design combined with powerful performances by the next generation of young Canberra region dancers.

Subject to Change school matinee performance - Friday 17 May, 12:30pm-2:00pm (including post-show Q&A)

School group tickets - $15 per student, with 1 teacher free per 15 students - additional teachers $20 each

Education resource kit - Subject to Change

Schools are also invited to engage with QL2 Dance and Subject to Change through a bespoke education resource kit, designed to maximise the educational value of attending this live performance.

With comprehensive information about the production, the kit may be used as an entry point and guide for discussion, both before and after viewing the performance. Various classroom-ready learning activities offer students an immersive experience of the themes and processes in Subject to Change, spanning performance, composition and appreciation, as well as MAKING and RESPONDING tasks.

The learning opportunities align with many outcomes in the Australian Curriculum for Years 7–10. For years 11 & 12, they link to ACT BSSS units, and NSW Board of Studies outcomes in Dance Performance, Dance Composition, and Dance as an Artform; as well as similar areas in other syllabi.

The resource kit costs $49 and will be available to schools at week one of term two.
