On Course is a mentored young choreographers’ project giving returning tertiary students an opportunity to choreograph a short work or continue work on a previous composition exercise from your course. A panel will select the participating choreographers from the applications received. The Centre will offer support by:
allocating tertiary or senior Quantum Leap dancers,
Your work can be up to 8 minutes long. It may be a reproduction or extension of original compositions made for course work, or a new piece. All choreographers are offered 6 rehearsals of 3 hours in length with at least 2 in the Theatre where the performances will take place. If you have dancers who are prepared to come to Canberra to work with you that will be encouraged, and we might also allot other tertiary students and Quantum Leap dancers to you.
We expect that you will be available to dance in 1 other piece, so in your application please outline your availability over the rehearsal period. Some dancers are asked to be in many pieces and this becomes very difficult. So we need to have final say on who performs in what.
This project is about choreographic development. Costumes, props and lighting effects need to be kept to a minimum as there are many works and not a lot of time for production.
The panel will select pieces based on quality of applications (they don’t have to be long - just clear).
If you need to speak to me directly, I can be reached at the office on 02 6247 3103 or on my mobile – 0418 943 857.
Please send your application to the office by Monday 13 September. You will also find an email version on our web site www.ql2.org.au. The panel will assess quickly and contact you by early October.
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to let Canberra see your work! (The Quantum Leap young choreographers’ project Hot to Trot will be performed on 28 & 29 November 6pm & 8pm)
