2020 Training Programs

“THEN.NOW.WHEN?” a double bill “REBEL” & “CONVERSATIONS” is QL2 Dance’s major project for 2020 for our Quantum Leap ensemble (ages 14+) — which could mean you!
If selected during the free workshop, you will create and perform new work with Artistic Director Ruth Osborne and choreographers Steve Gow, Jack Ziesing and Jodie Farrugia.
Physical, thoughtful, and professionally presented: THEN.NOW.WHEN? is an opportunity for you to collaborate and create with other young dancers.
Activism. Rebellion. Revolution. When is change coming? Who will make it happen? And how?
“Rebel” – Activism is growing, we need major societal change. We need it now. It happened before… it will happen again. Rebel.
“Conversations” – Movement is a universal language that knows no borders. Two youth dance companies meet in movement, one Thai, the other Australian.
WORKSHOP AUDITION: Sunday 23 February 1pm-5pm at the QL2 Studio, Gorman Arts Centre. Pre-registration is essential. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
Ages 14-23, with a creative mind and dance, theatre or gymnastics experience.
REHEARSALS: Sundays from 15 March to July (except Easter), ten days over two weeks in April and two week full time in July – in school holidays for most students.

On Course project helps to cross-fertilise dancers from different university dance courses around Australia: they work together, discuss, challenge, create, perform. Canberra dancers returning from full time study interstate get to reconnect with audiences here. And for audiences, it is a great opportunity to see where young dance artists are going — and in the forum, to hear from them about their work, and perhaps to influence that direction!”
After each performance there will be an optional forum and Q&A with the choreographers and dancers.14 December 7pm and 15 December 3pm & 7pm

On Course is a choreographers’ project for tertiary students: to develop your artistic voice, leadership, and audience relationship. You get an opportunity to develop a short work, with two public performances. QL2 Dance will support you: by timetabling choreographers, dancers, time, rehearsal space and performance venue; with production and marketing; and by challenging and guiding you. On Course is for students at university or university-level courses (including equivalent courses overseas, and NAISDA). You can be in any year. A panel will select the participating choreographers from the applications received.
On Course is a great opportunity to break out of the constraints of study, to work in a non-assessed, critical but supportive environment. You can develop and test choreographic and theatrical ideas and processes; and work with dancers and choreographers from around Australia to build your dance network. Continue reading
