2020 Dance Training Programs: excellence in dance for young people

We have Training Programs with regular classes for junior (8+) through to pre-professional dancers. They prepare you for other programs at QL2, and for tertiary level courses. Prices, paid per term for the whole program, start at $15 per class, with big discounts as you do more making it less than $7.50 per hour for the highest program. Each program has a set schedule, from one to six classes per week. Introductory program: single 1 hour class/week. (approx. ages 8–12)

Introductory program: single 1 hour class/week. (approx. ages 8-12) A fun and lively entry-level program. An introduction to QL2 with a mix of styles, creative work, and body training.

Term 1 fee: $150 (10 weeks) or $280 with optional Acrobatics, Strength & Flex

Tuesday class

Licence to Move program for boys: 1 or 2 class/week (approx. ages 8-12)

Licence to Move program: 1 hour/week. Approx. ages 8–12.
Provides an introduction to QL2 for boys, prior to joining mixed classes.

Term 1 fee: $150 (10 weeks) or $280 with optional Acrobatics, Strength & Flex

Thursday class (with optional Tuesday)

Junior A Program: 2 or 3 classes/week (approx. ages 8-12)

Junior A Program: 2 or 3 classes/week. Approx. ages 8–12.
Fundamental training for younger dancers, with two classes running consecutively. Designed for girls and boys who are keen to dance.

Term 1 fee: $280 (10 weeks) or $390 with optional Acrobatics, Strength & Flex

Thursday classes (with optional Tuesday)

Junior B (boys) Program: 2 or 3 classes/week (approx. ages 8-12)

Junior B (boys) Program: 2 or 3 classes/week. Approx. ages 8–12.
Fundamental training for younger boys, with two classes including the boys-only “Licence to Move.” Designed for boys who are keen to dance.

Term 1 fee: $280 (10 weeks) or $390 with optional Acrobatics, Strength & Flex

Thursday classes (with optional Tuesday)

Intermediate Program: 3 or 4 classes/week (approx. ages 11-16)

Intermediate Program: 3 or 4 classes/week; 3½ or 4¾ hours/week.
Approx. ages 11-16. Designed for dancers with some contemporary dance experience, or excellence in other movement disciplines. Three classes a week (or four with optional yoga) to build skills, strength, fitness and choreographic awareness.

Term 1 fee: $390, or $468 with optional Yoga. (10 weeks)

Tuesday & Wednesday classes (with optional Friday)

InterPlus Program: 4 or 5 classes/week (approx. ages 13-16)

InterPlus Program: 4 or 5 classes/week; 5 or 6¼ hours/week.
Approx. ages 13-16. An intermediate program with a faster progression, designed for dancers with strong contemporary dance experience, or excellence in other movement disciplines, who might aspire to a career in dance. Four classes a week (or five with optional yoga) to enhance and extend skills, strength, fitness and choreographic knowledge.

Term 1 fee: $456, or $517 with optional Yoga. (10 weeks)

Monday & Thursday classes (with optional Friday)

Senior Program: 4 or 5 classes/week (approx. ages 14-20)

Senior Program: 4 or 5 classes/week; 5¾ or 7 hours/week.
Approx. ages 14–20. A challenging program for older dancers in, or auditioning for, our projects.

Term 1 fee: $456, or $517 with optional Yoga. (10 weeks) 

Monday & Wednesday classes (with optional Friday)

Pre-Tertiary Program: 6 classes/week (approx. ages 14-20)

Pre-Tertiary Program: 6 classes/week; 8½ hours/week. Approx. ages 14–20. A more challenging and complete program with a faster progression, designed for committed dancers aiming to audition for full time dance training or university courses.

Term 1 fee: $599 (10 weeks)

FAQ

Our Teachers

Our teachers are practicing dance artists and trained educators, plus visiting guest teachers when visiting companies and independent dance artists are in town. Our regular teachers include:

Ruth Osborne, Artistic Director of QL2 Dance, has over 40 years’ experience performing, teaching, choreographing, directing, and mentoring.

Olivia Fyfe is a teacher and contemporary dancer. A WAAPA graduate, she has worked with Fiona Malone and Cadi McCarthy. She spent a year in Europe developing her artistic practice.

Alison Plevey is a teacher, dance and physical theatre artist, creator and improviser. She is Party Leader of Canberra’s Australian Dance Party.

Stephen Gow is a teacher and dancer in Hip Hop, Contemporary, Acrobatics and Breakdancing. He toured with “Cypher”, a bboy theatre show created by Nick Power.

Alana Stenning is a graduate of the Adelaide College of the Arts, and a QL2 alumni. She is a member of the Australian Dance Party and a Canberra based independent dance artist.

Ursula Taylor  is a QL2 alumni. She is currently completing a degree in Physiotherapy and  is a qualified yoga teacher who teaches at QL2 and SOULution Yoga.

Debbie Trotter Wharton  is a VCA Graduate. She has 40 years experience professional teaching in both New Zealand and Australia.

Ryan Stone is a WAAPA graduate and a QL2 Alumni. He is a member of the Australian Dance Party and a Canberra based independent dance artist.

You can join our classes at any point during the term. For most programs, send us an email or give us a call to let us know which program you’d like to try-out, then just arrive 15 minutes before one of the classes. For the Senior and Pre-Tertiary programs, call us to discuss the programs with Artistic Director Ruth Osborne.
