EDIT: Audition is over — but if you missed the audition you might be able to audition through classes. Contact us!
Reckless Valour is our biggest project of 2015! A new group of Quantum Leapers will join existing members. You will be working with choreographers Jodie Farrugia, Fiona Malone, Rowan Marchingo, Natalie Cursio and James Batchelor.
Ten years on from its creation, we will redevelop and extend Reckless Valour with a new cast, creating dance theatre for everyone: challenging, entertaining and contemporary.
Reckless Valour is a moving tribute to young Australians in war. It pays homage to the courage of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. It invites us to contemplate nationhood, service, and sacrifice; and to celebrate the power of young people to shape the future. Through this journey we are seeking connections between history and contemporary culture: what war means to Australians, especially young Australians.
Under the artistic direction of Ruth Osborne with dramaturg Paschal Daantos Berry, we are bringing back the original choreographers Jodie Farrugia, Natalie Cursio, Rowan Marchingo & Fiona Malone and composers Nicholas Ng, Warwick Lynch, Mark Webber and Luke Tierney. A new section will be created by James Batchelor, who was in the original cast and is now a successful contemporary choreographer.
“Reckless Valour seeks connections between history and contemporary culture: what war means to Australians, especially young Australians. It invites us to contemplate and celebrate the power of young people to shape the future. ”
Reckless Valour will be developed and performed by a cast of young people auditioned from Canberra and the region, as well as dancers from regional NSW and Thailand.
Classes are essential!
Everyone in our projects must regularly attend a substantial program of dance classes — at least several hours a week. Have a look at our classes program here — you probably want to be doing the Intermediate Program (3 classes/week) or Senior Program (4 classes week). If you are already doing solid technique classes elsewhere, ask (in writing) for a partial or full exemption from the Artistic Director.
Cost, payment plans, bursaries
This project is heavily subsidised — the total cost to you is $450 for Reckless Valour, including the project t-shirt. You then need to add the cost of classes.
We are non-profit, and aim to keep costs low. We offer bursaries to financially assist people where cost prevents you being in a project or program. To make an appointment to discuss this, please phone Ruth Osborne on 0418 943 857.
